About This Bird

Few birds stop visitors in their tracks like the Green Jay. Its vivid combination of green, yellow, blue, and black plumage seems almost impossibly tropical for a bird found in the United States. The Rio Grande Valley marks the northern limit of the Green Jay's range, making VNC one of the best and most accessible places in the country to see this spectacular species. Green Jays are intelligent, curious, and often approach visitors closely on the trail.

Did You Know?

Green Jays are known to use sticks as tools to pry insects from bark β€” one of very few bird species documented using tools in the wild.
