Couch's Kingbird is nearly identical to the Tropical Kingbird but distinguished by its distinctive call β a loud, buzzy "brreeer" rather than the Tropical's high twittering. It is the kingbird of the Rio Grande Valley, present year-round and frequently seen perching on open branches, wires, and fences throughout VNC, sallying out aggressively to catch insects in mid-air or chase away much larger birds that enter its territory.
